What’s Harder: Getting Your First QA Job or Growing to Senior Tester?
Getting your first QA job is usually harder because you must prove practical skills without real industry experience. Employers expect knowledge of testing fundamentals, tools like Selenium or Jira, and understanding of SDLC. However, growing to a Senior QA Tester becomes challenging later because it requires leadership, automation expertise, test strategy planning, and business understanding. In real projects, I’ve seen beginners struggle most with interviews and hands-on scenarios, while mid-level testers struggle with architecture decisions and mentoring responsibilities. Once you gain 2–4 years of experience, career growth depends more on continuous learning, automation skills, and communication ability than just manual testing knowledge or tool familiarity.
