Is programming required to become a cyber security analyst?
Programming is not strictly required to become a cyber security analyst, based on my industry experience and work with learners at H2K Infosys, but it is highly beneficial. Entry-level analysts can start with networking, operating systems, security fundamentals, and tools like SIEM, firewalls, and vulnerability scanners. However, basic scripting in Python, Bash, or PowerShell helps automate tasks, analyze logs, and understand attacks better. Many professionals enter through Cyber security training with job placement programs that teach just enough coding for real-world scenarios. As you progress, programming skills significantly improve effectiveness, career growth, and problem-solving capability in security roles.
